The shackles of earth were no match for this man
Bound only to ideals we knew was his plan
He soars to the heavens with grace and with style
His legend assured to glow for a while
The angels embrace him, take flight with his soul
As we gather today to share and extol
The talent and caring of a man so bold
Plucked early by God before all was told
His guidance was gospel to many of us here
Able to exact his hope from our fear
And now that the torch has been sown in the land
We must all rise to the occasion at hand
He hasn't abandoned but gone on to explore
And learn of the future for his family of four
Their hearts and their souls entwined as if one
Will be honored each day with each dawning sun
From A Blue Planet we search the dark skies
To ponder the meaning of life when one dies
But greatness is measured by acts, not time
And heroes live on long past their prime
We'll miss him for sure, perhaps more than we know
And the process of healing is apt to be slow
But the generous gifts and the memories we own
Will comfort us through this time we're alone
He starred in a role that touched all of our lives
Sisters and brothers, husbands and wives
And just as a great song is able to do
